The Greenwood Police Department is investigating three burglaries — two commercial and one residential — that took place over two days this week.
On Wednesday at 7:20 a.m., police responded to a call from John-Richard, located at 2900 Baldwin Road.
In that case, a suspect or suspects pried open a side door of the building and gained entry.
According to the police report, a Coca-Cola vending machine was broken into and an estimated $50 in cash was taken from it.
No other items were listed as missing in the report.
At about 9 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to 3300 Baldwin Road.
A man told officers that when he went to move an 18-wheeler, he noticed the cover was up on the truck. Three Exide batteries, valued at $200 each, were taken as were keys placed underneath the batteries, the report stated.
“These are going to happen from time to time. We’re pretty sure the incidents are related,” said Police Chief Ray Moore.
He said the theft of the batteries might have been for personal use or for resale.
The final burglary was of a residence on Avenue E, reported to police at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
A woman returning home from work around 1 p.m. noticed that the door knob to her residence had been dismantled.
Stolen items included a 40-inch flatscreen TV valued at $179; an Xbox entertainment system valued at $100; and a 55-inch TV valued at $1,200.
The woman also told officers that previously her truck had been broken into.
To provide information on any of the burglaries, the public is encouraged to call Greenwood-Leflore-Carroll Crime Stoppers Inc. at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
