Sewer improvements are coming for North Carrollton in the form of a new chlorine station.
Construction on the station, the first of its kind in more than half a century, began Tuesday, said Mayor Ken Strachan.
The station is being funded through the federal Community Development Block Grant Program. North Carrollton’s application for small public utilities funds was approved, and the city will receive more than $449,000 in grant funds.
Strachan said the grant funds will cover the cost completely, with no match required. Red Buck Construction of Wesson was awarded the project bid.
The new station will be in the North Carrollton Industrial Park, east of Marshall Elementary School. In addition to the station, two new sewer pumps, new water lines, and a manhole and cleaning lines will be installed.
“With the summer months and weather cooperating, we hope to get this work done, which will be a significant upgrade for North Carrollton’s sewer system,” Strachan
said.
The sewer improvements are in addition to other infrastructure improvements happening in Carroll County.
A new bridge across Big Sand Creek, spanning between Carrollton and North Carrollton, will be completed over the next year to replace the current bridge, which is deteriorating. The project is funded through the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
A renovation project for the Carroll County Tabernacle is also underway, funded through MDOT grand funds. Restrooms, lighting, a concrete pad and sidewalks will be added.
