Regarding Clint Guenther’s letter about West Claiborne Avenue, I personally have zero trouble turning onto Claiborne, but I think lowering the speed limit is a fine idea. What we really need, however, is a left-turn light at Claiborne and U.S. Highway 82.

I wish the parade was like it used to be when I was a kid. We had a morning parade that started at 10 a.m. and then the evening parade at 5. We used to have almost 200 floats and bands participating.

Throughout the country, groups of people are going into stores and stealing whatever they want to steal. Maybe people feel entitled to steal things that belong to other people because they see top people in government, both state and federal, stealing and not being held accountable.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
