Bankston oak trees
The whole situation with the two oak trees at Bankston Elementary School is so ridiculously sad and stupid.
I was driving by the school when the trees were being cut down, and I thought the campus looked fine.
Then when I read the editorial on the weekend of June 26-27 (“Trees’ removal was poor decision”), that really makes things awful when it said “the way this went down raises several concerns.”
How does the editor of the Commonwealth know how it went down? Simply curious. Who was the person spreading the news throughout the neighborhood?
Who owns the property, the community or the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District? How does everyone know that the trees were healthy? Does everyone in Greenwood call the Tree Board or consult with their neighbors before a tree is cut down?
Name calling over oak trees? Really?

Medicaid expansion
Regarding the article “Hospital CEO, surgeon call for Miss. Medicaid expansion” (July 9):
Jason Studley, the CEO of Greenwood Leflore Hospital, must think that he is in a state where leaders of the state government care about their citizens or the citizens care about themselves.
Studley is for Medicaid expansion. Most sane people are for the expansion. But this is Mississippi. The leaders of this state don’t care about the people, and the people don’t care about themselves, because we keep sending the same losers back to Jackson year after year just because they have an “R” after their names.
We really deserve the government that we get.
