Leaf disparity
Recently, I raked the leaves in my yard, bagging them in 15 plastic bags, neatly stacking the bags near the alley in my backyard, just as the city ordinance is written. Or written as I thought it was.
My neighbor hired someone to rake his leaves. The leaves were simply raked up and piled into a large pile in his backyard, near the same alley as mine.
Days later, my leaves were picked up by city workers and taken off. A few days later, my neighbor’s leaves were picked up by city workers using a large scoop, piled onto a huge truck and taken off also.
The end result of each event was the same — our leaves were removed from our yards by city workers and taken somewhere.
Why did I work so hard in doing the right thing?
