Loose dogs
Dogs are territorial. That’s their nature. And people like to have dogs that alert them when a stranger is on their property.
When someone walks by a home on the street, that is not the property the dog is protecting. But it doesn’t know the difference. Its owner does.
So, when this Greenwood resident who walks through town gets charged at by unleashed dogs, it is frightening and causes a great deal of emotional distress as she is followed down a street with a dog barking viciously behind her. She thinks, How do I protect myself against dogs? Maybe bear spray? But no, it’s the owner who is at fault.
So, maybe she should file a lawsuit against these uncaring owners. Would that produce a change in this town with so many dog owners who don’t control their pets? She has been told, “He wouldn’t hurt anybody,” as the dog salivates, growls, charges and barks.
Some of us have just read on Facebook about a local pack of dogs that killed pet sheep. That may also be the dogs’ nature, but I think not. Those are uncontrolled dogs. We now have them running in packs in Greenwood?
It is worrisome.

Lusia Harris-Stewart
RIP Lusia Harris-Stewart. The daughter of sharecroppers. The only Black player on a college team she led to three national championships. The first woman to score a basket in the Olympics. So good she was drafted by the NBA.
Every American should know her name.

William Blake
Greenwood and the Police Department will sorely miss William Blake being on the force.
William knew this town and its people better than any other policeman on the force, worked hard and put in lots of overtime to help cover the shortage of officers that we continue to have.
It is a shame that it has come to this. Good luck, Greenwood.

Tree impediment
Would the city please trim the small cedar tree at the northeast corner of Claiborne Avenue and Grand Boulevard? It has been blocking the sidewalk for many years. Thanks!
