Afghanistan
My seventh grade math teacher told us that whenever facing a math problem, the best solution to the problem will usually be the simplest.
This same axiom can be applied with the situation in Afghanistan.
We simply tell the Taliban that we are taking all of the Americans safely out of that rat’s nest. Furthermore, after we have all the Americans back home, then we are taking all of the Afghanistan people who assisted or translated for us out of the country. If ONE person is detained, injured or killed, we will have a very special selection of Marines and/or Navy SEALs patiently waiting to be given the word, and they'll kick some very serious tail.
Furthermore, there will be no American equipment, vehicles, computers, fuel tanks, etc., especially no military vehicles, because we will totally obliterate anything usable. And if our satellites or reconnaissance airplanes see any of our stuff being used, they will make great targets for our Apache helicopter gunships.

Itta Bena mayor
Regarding the comment in “My Two Cents” (Aug. 11) about Itta Bena’s new mayor, Reginald Freeman:
I don’t understand what the people want. They complained about the mayor not being around, and when they get one who’s around, they still complain.
The citizens need to get their heads out of the sand.
Deficit spending
Your Aug. 12 editorial, “Spending like mad,” questioned the wisdom of Congress borrowing and spending more trillions in the creation of new social programs.
The editorial was short, but so true. The Bible, Shakespeare and Dave Ramsey caution against borrowing. Those fellows in Washington could stand to read all three.
