Delta variant
Regarding Wednesday’s editorial about heeding the warning of the delta variant, the last thing I am is a fearmonger. In fact, I thought there was an unnecessary overreaction to the outbreak of COVID in early 2020. I was wrong.
I have it on very good and trustworthy medical authority that the delta variant is, in fact, going to be much worse, at least for those who are not vaccinated.
The vaccine won’t kill you. It’s also not a government conspiracy, no more than the vaccines millions of us took for polio and smallpox decades ago. Those vaccines saved countless lives, and I don’t know of a single person who died from either of them. I had both those and the COVID vaccines, as have most of the people I know. Neither I nor any of them died from any of the vaccines.
Get the vaccine, and you won’t have to worry about the virus or its variant. Get the vaccine. You’ll be glad you did. Get the vaccine, and live.

Press awards
Regarding the article “Commonwealth named state’s best small daily newspaper” (July 13):
Wow! Congratulations to the Commonwealth, its editor and obviously extremely capable staff for all the awards received at the Mississippi Press Association’s annual competition. Keep up the good work!
