Services for A’Marcus Holland of Greenwood will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.
A’Marcus, who was 10 months old, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, at his home.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at the church.
Pastor Victoria West will officiate at the services.

Banks says firing was personal

Marcus Banks, Greenwood’s recently fired fire chief, says Mayor Kenderick Cox’s decision to remove him was personal.
“This is direct retaliation for my support of (former Mayor) Carolyn McAdams,” he said. “Make no doubt about it.”
In response, Banks said Cox has found his opponent in Greenwood’s 2029 mayoral election.

Man sentenced to 28 years for shooting

A Goodman man has been sentenced to 28 years in prison on a charge of second-degree murder in the 2022 shooting death of a Greenwood man.
Kendrick Vaughns, 41, 3178 U.S. 51, pleaded guilty this week in the fatal shooting of Reginald Washington, Assistant District Attorney Stanley Alexander said.

Greenwood native Peggy Sue Hemphill, also known as Lady Trucker, travels to Switzerland this week to sing in the Blues Rules Crissier Festival, a venue that will expose her music to thousands of international blues, soul and gospel fans. (By Dan Marsh)

Lady Trucker to perform in Switzerland

Lady Trucker, the award-winning Hill Country blues and zydeco singer from Greenwood, will depart for Europe on Tuesday to participate in the Blues Rules Crissier Festival on Friday and Saturday in Crissier-Lausanne, Switzerland.
