Two fatal shootings occur over Labor Day weekend

Two fatal but unrelated shootings occurred in Greenwood over the Labor Day weekend, each claiming one life.
Greenwood police have arrested and charged a Greenwood man with murder in connection with one of the shootings, and authorities are requesting the public’s assistance in providing leads on the other shooting.

Man pleads guilty in fatal ’21 shooting

A Sidon man charged in the 2021 fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
Denarius Weatherall, now 28, was sentenced to 30 years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with 25 years to serve in custody and the remaining five years on supervised probation upon his release.
