Ruleville hospital buys Park Ave. building

Lee Abraham has sold to North Sunflower Medical Center the building that currently houses his donut shop as well as the Greenwood campus of Mississippi Delta Community College.
The transaction, the price of which was not disclosed, means both of those current tenants will be relocating.

1 woman dies after shooting at restaurant

One woman is dead after she was shot in the parking lot of Greenwood’s No Way Jose restaurant Sunday evening.
Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders said Keyara McCline, 24, died from gunshot wound injuries at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

United Way picks new leader

Courtney Kimmel has been elected executive director of United Way of Leflore County and will begin her duties Tuesday.
Kimmel fills the position left by Freda Maxey, who announced her retirement in August after 18 years as executive director.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
