Murder trial delayed; too few for jury

Another murder trial didn’t start this week because a 12-person jury could not be assembled from those who showed up for jury duty.
The issue is becoming more common, Circuit Judge Margaret Carey-McCray said Thursday morning.

Johnson-Waldington chosen as school superintendent

James Johnson-Waldington, who was an interim superintendent of the former Leflore County School District, has been chosen as the next superintendent of the Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
