On 4th down with the season at stake, Leflore County quarterback D.J. Jones delivered a clutch 45-yard touchdown pass, lifting the Tigers to a 24-22 victory over host Charleston and punching their ticket to Hattiesburg for their first state championship appearance in school history.

Tony Shan Joe, 90, of Greenwood passed away Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Delta Funeral Home with interment in Odd Fellows East Cemetery. The Rev. Lanny Haley will officiate. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service.

Missing man found in jail

A Greenwood man who was missing for more than a week has been found in custody at the DeSoto County Jail on two misdemeanor charges.
Dennis L. Winters, 45, is in safe condition otherwise, according to Leflore County Sheriff Investigator Michael Baldwin. Winters’ location was determined on Monday evening, he said.
