Head of Carroll Academy dismissed

Barry Finnie is out as Carroll Academy headmaster.
The announcement of removal came from a statement sent out by Ryan Jackson, the president of the school’s board.
Jackson said Finnie was no longer headmaster as of the end of business Monday.

Former officer found dead

A former Greenwood police officer was found dead at her residence Tuesday morning.
NaStacia Rice, 31, 108 Virginia St., suffered a single self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders.
Sanders said the death was ruled a suicide.

MVSU receives grants for 2 cultural projects

Mississippi Valley State University has received two grants from the Mississippi Delta National Heritage Area to help hone projects focused on cultural heritage in the region.
One grant, in the amount of $15,174, will fund MVSU’s seventh annual B.B. King Day Symposium, which will focus on the role of women in blues music.

‘The Odd Couple’: Little Theatre to present Neil Simon comedy

Greenwood Little Theatre is set to present the Neil Simon classic comedy “The Odd Couple.”
The play is being directed by Will Perkins and Katie Acosta, who will also be performing in the show.
Perkins said the theme of Simon’s play highlights the endurance of friendship.
