Ralph Bardin Redditt was born in the Mississippi Delta on Jan. 20, 1936, to Vivian Bardin and Ralph Redditt. He spent his childhood years in Greenwood and on the family’s Valley Farm in Carroll County.

Citizens hold rally, vigil in response to gun violence

About 40 people gathered in front of City Hall on Tuesday afternoon to hold a rally and vigil in response to recent gun violence in the Greenwood community.
There have been 14 reported homicides this year in Leflore County. All have involved firearms, and nearly all have occurred within the city limits of Greenwood.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
