Council shoots down Cox's agenda items

A divided Greenwood City Council has voted down almost all of Mayor Kenderick Cox’s initial agenda.
The council on Tuesday rejected three of Cox’s seven appointments, declined to consider three others, rejected a job description for a new post and voted down a state of emergency proclamation to address ongoing gun violence and crime.

A heavy presence of law enforcement made up of the Grenada Police Department and Grenada Sheriff's Office responded to the scene of the homicide in the 700 block of Leigh Avenue early Tuesday morning. A gathering of family and friends were also on the scene.

3rd man charged in shooting

A third man has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of an alleged illegal gaming house on Mississippi 7 and the fatal shooting of its owner two years ago.
Detrick Doyle, 31, of Greenwood was booked by the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department Saturday afternoon and charged with capital murder enhanced by a firearm.

Council approves Liddell as chief administrative officer

The Greenwood City Council has approved Elizabeth Liddell as the city’s new chief administrative officer.
Liddell, who has served as the executive director for Main Street Greenwood for nearly two years, was approved unanimously Tuesday.
