Councilwoman Dorothy Glenn dies

Dorothy Glenn, who served on the Greenwood City Council for more than six years, has died. She was 69.
Mayor Kenderick Cox and Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders both confirmed to the Commonwealth that the District 6 councilwoman passed away on Friday. Sanders said Glenn died of natural causes.

Zameria Jones, a 10-year-old student at Threadgill Elementary School, died Thursday evening at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was wounded from gunfire on Memorial Day and had spent a week-and-a-half in critical condition. A prayer vigil will be held at noon Wednesday in the parking lot of Threadgill.

Teacher: 10-year-old Zameria Jones ‘was a kid that everybody loved’

Zameria Jones was “quiet but comical” and “a model student,” remembers one of her former teachers.
“She was a kid that everybody loved,” said Kim Smith, Zameria’s fourth grade social studies and science teacher.

Deputies identify suspect in shooting; arrest warrant pending

Leflore County deputies have identified a suspect in the shooting death of a 19-year-old woman on Sunday.
Chief Deputy Michael Baldwin said Thursday morning that an arrest warrant for the suspect was pending approval by a judge.

Church’s Chicken on U.S. 82 will return later this year. The building that housed the chicken restaurant is being renovated for the restaurant’s reopening, Greenwood Community Development Director Betty Stigler said Thursday.
