Annual day of remembrance set for ex-Itta Bena alderman

The city of Itta Bena has declared March 24 as an annual day of remembrance for Violet Hudson, a former alderman who died July 21 at the age of 60.
Hudson served as an alderman from 2023 to 2025, after filling the unexpired term of the late Willie Williams. March 24 was her birthday.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
