Prep Players of the Week: Four on offense, one defender honored for play

Four players on the offensive side of the ball and one on defense stood out for their play in games held last Friday in Week 1 of the 2025 season.
The Carroll Academy duo of Collin Hurst and Cohen Blaylock led the Rebels to a 39-0 victory over visiting Manchester Academy to earn the Commonwealth’s Player of the Week honor on offense.

Services for Lakeria Latrice Fisher of Greenwood will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Providence Missionary Baptist Church.
Miss Fisher, 19, died Sunday, June 1, 2025, in Greenwood.
Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. Friday at Great Southern Funeral Home.
The Rev. Mac Henry will officiate at the services.

Goss added to all-star game

Pillow Academy senior defensive back Clayton Goss was added to the MAIS All-Star AAAA game as a replacement player when a spot came open Wednesday.
Goss was an alternate and will join four of his Mustang teammates at the game, which will be played at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Missisippi College in Clinton.
