Mississippi House proposes new fund for construction training

The construction industry has struggled since the Great Recession but now one of its main struggles is finding skilled workers.
A bill passed by the state House on Monday proposes creating a fund to help schools with construction training programs and encouraging students to explore these careers.

Ms. Harris, 69, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, in Tupelo.
She was a factory worker.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Century Funeral Home.

The J.Z. George Lady Jaguars claimed the third seed from the Region 3-2A Tournament with a 46-22 win over Leland Friday in North Carrollton.
The Lady Jags will play at Velma Jackson at 6 p.m. Monday in the first round of the North 2A Tournament.

WINONA — Services for Isabell Dillard of Carrollton will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Bear Marsh Missionary Baptist Church in Carrollton.
Ms. Dillard, 74, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2026, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
She was a laborer.
