A Greenwood man pleaded guilty this week to being involved in two burglaries, according to a release from District Attorney Dewayne Richardson.
Marquellus Davis, 21, submitted his pleas Monday. He was convicted of two house burglaries and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
He was sentenced to 20 years, with 10 years suspended and 10 years to serve, followed by five years of post-release supervision. He was also ordered to receive therapeutic drug treatment while incarcerated, according to the release.
On Sept. 15, 2021, a Greenwood police officer witnessed a small black car traveling at a high rate of speed on Leflore Avenue. The suspect’s vehicle struck several other vehicles and came to rest after hitting The Alluvian.
Davis was extracted from the vehicle, and his vehicle contained several guns, cash, coins and ammunition. Police determined several of the items had been taken during a burglary from a home on Claiborne Avenue Extended earlier that day.
Police determined Davis was already out on bond for a previous house burglary on Oct. 28, 2019, as well as a drug possession charge in October 2020.
