Leflore County High School had two boys and one girl place at the Region 3-1A weight lifting meet held last week at Kosciusko High School. Demarcus Bell, left photo, and Gregory Moore will move on to South State after placing first in their weight classes. Bell lifted 1,135 pounds, and Moore lifted 865 pounds. Weather forces teams to adjust

The winter weather has played havoc with the local prep schedules.
The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District’s three schools — Greenwood High, Amanda Elzy and Leflore County — will not be playing any of its basketball games this week, as all three schools are closed.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
