The 18th-ranked Bulldogs were selected to play in the Outback Bowl against Iowa. The game will kick off from Raymond James Stadium on Tuesday, Jan. 1 at 11 a.m. on ESPN2.

The Amanda Elzy girls held off a late charge by Leflore County post a 36-30 win Friday night at their home gym.

The Lady Panthers (3-6) took a 20-13 lead at the half after the first period ended tied at 9-9. Elzy led 30-20 after the third frame.

The PA girls won 54-32 behind a big game from senior Jane Rob Pannell to move to 10-0 on the season. Pannell had 16 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Madeline Mattox added 11 points, six boards and three assists.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
