Greenwood High School kept its championship hopes alive with its 57-50 win over New Hope Tuesday night in the first round of the State 4A Tournament.

Saturday night at 7, the Bulldogs look to take another step toward that state title as they host Byhalia High School in the round of 16.

Thomas Dillard may get a chance to return to where it all started on the diamond for the Greenwood native.

The former Pillow Academy player got his first college start at catcher this week during a mid-week win over Arkansas State. He also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
