The Amanda Elzy girls volleyball team claimed a 3-1 win over visiting Charleston High School Tuesday.
The Lady Panthers (1-1) won the first sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-16. Charleston took the third set 25-18, and Elzy closed things out with a 25-9 win in the fourth set.
Elzy goes to Coahoma County Thursday.

The Pillow Academy girls soccer team picked up a 3-0 win over Bayou Academy Monday in a Division II West contest in Cleveland.
Riley Coleman scored two goals for Pillow (3-0-1), and Emma Beckwith tacked on the third goal.
Pillow plays Magnolia Heights Thursday in a division contest at Northwest Mississippi Community College.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
