Amanda Elzy High School honored one of its former players Thursday night during halftime of the girls game against Leflore County. Cedrica Cooper, who was known as CJ during her playing days at Elzy, passed away in January of this year from natural causes. She graduated in 2010 and was on the varsity basketball team for four years. The school honored her with a framed jersey and other photos from her time at Elzy. Cooper was a member of the All-Commonwealth first team her senior year and made the second team her sophomore and junior years. Receiving the jersey were her mother, Hope, and her brother, Justin, during the ceremony. Several other family members and former coaches were in attendance.
