Weems has been a standout player for the Lady Mustangs in soccer, as well as playing girls fast-pitch softball, basketball and running track. MHSAA delays state 2A, 4A meets

The MHSAA Class 2A and 4A state track meets have been pushed back to Tuesday because of expected inclement weather Friday.
Leflore County and J.Z. George are competing in the 2A meet, and Greenwood’s boys are in the 4A meet.
Amanda Elzy is competing in the Class 3A meet Monday.
All state meets are being held at Pearl High School.

Dinkin’ in the Delta slated for May 30-31

The fourth annual Dinkin’ in the Delta pickleball tournament will be held May 30-31 at the Twin Rivers Recreation Facility indoor courts.
The tournament will be for mixed doubles, which will start on May 30, and men’s and women’s doubles on May 31.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
