Three Mississippi State players are taking part in today’s Senior Bowl in Orlando.
Former Bulldogs Montez Sweat, Elgton Jenkins and Johnathan Abram will represent MSU today in Florida.
Sweat was so impressive in live workouts that some analysts now say he could land in the top 10.
Sweat had 12 sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss as a senior, a year after he had 10.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss in 2017. And there is no stat-padding either; on third down in 2018, Sweat had seven sacks (which ranked fourth in FBS), 15 hurries (ninth), 13 hits (second), five knockdowns (third) and 25 pressures (fifth).
Jenkins is a senior offensive lineman.
Abram, who played safety this past season, comes off a senior season in which he led Mississippi State with 99 tackles and earned first-team All-SEC honors.
“Got a couple legends from Columbia — Terrell Buckley, Walter Payton, Bobby Hamilton,” Abram said. “I’m just trying to add my name to those list of guys. I just want to be the next one up. It’s pretty much led me to where I’ve been – hard work. I knew that's what was going to get me where I need to be in life.”
Ole Miss offensive lineman Javon Patterson is also suiting up to give NFL scouts a better look at him.
Patterson played four years of offensive guard at Ole Miss but will play center today.
“It means a lot, it’s a humbling experience,” Patterson said.
“Coming from Petal, Mississippi, starting football, my mom used her last house note payment to start me playing football in sixth grade. Just to be able to go through that process and be where I am today is really a blessing. It’s great to be able to show where you came from and represent.”
