The Carroll Academy girls got a big game from Sandy Rhea Tackett as they knocked off visiting Kirk Academy 42-34 Thursday in Carrollton.
Tackett scored 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds and made five steals. She was aided by Gracie Turner, who had 11 points and eight rebounds.
Belle Sanders tacked on six points and five steals.
Carroll (4-3) led 15-7 after one, 30-17 at the half and 37-26 after the third period.
In the boys game, Carroll fell to 0-2 with a 47-36 loss to the Raiders, who led 12-4 after one, 22-11 at the half and 32-23 after the third.
Logan Taylor pumped in a team-high 18 points. Reese Fulton was held to six points.
Carroll goes to Tri-County Monday.
n Leflore County: Coahoma AHS came to Itta Bena Thursday and took a pair of games in Leflore County’s season opener.
In the girls game, Coahoma came out on top 39-18 as it led 8-6 after one, 20-9 at the half and 31-13 after the third frame.
De’Zaria Pittman had eight points and eight rebounds, and D’Miya Young tallied five points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Tigers.
In the boys game, Coahoma won 79-41 as it held leads of 22-8 after the first, 33-24 at the half and 55-33 after the third.
Kenyatta Brown led Leflore with nine points. Royce Jackson and Christopher Bruce had eight points each.
Leflore’s girls and boys play Madison St. Joe today at 2 and 3:30 at the Kosciusko Shootout.
