Greenwood’s Korey Robertson got his first taste of the NFL this past weekend.
The former Southern Miss and Greenwood High School wide receiver was one of several undrafted free agents wide outs at the Minnesota Vikings’ rookie minicamp in Eagan, Minnesota.
Robertson received draftable rankings from two services although he wasn’t taken in last month’s draft and now looks to be a receiver on the rise that the Minnesota Vikings could develop.
Robertson has good size and decent speed to make it in the NFL even tough he went undrafted last month after leaving USM a year early.
The 6-foot-1, 212-pounder ran a 4.56-second 40-yard dash and had a 34-inch vertical jump at the NFL combine.
According to Vikings 247sports, the former GHS standout uses his size and strength well and that appears to be his metier as a receiver.
This is what the website wrote: “QBs throw it up to him — sometimes double- or triple-covered — and he comes down with it more often than not.
“The issue with Robertson, at least at the NFL level, is that he may not have the speed and quickness to gain much separation from opposing DBs, so he’ll need improve his route running to gain more separation that way. He’ll also need to improve on his 6.8 percent drop rate.”
Robertson had a breakout season in 2017, with more than 1,000 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns in 13 games.
His ability to come down with contested catches has impressed some in the NFL, and he could be a bit of a mismatch for smaller corners.
Robertson has drawn some comparisons to Viking receiver Laquon Treadwell out of Ole Miss who hasn’t done much in the NFL in his first two seasons.
Picked 23rd overall in 2016, Treadwell has caught 21 passes for 215 yards and no touchdowns, getting completely passed up and overshadowed by Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen.
