Greenwood area public schools close out the regular season tonight, then turn their attention to region tournaments.
Amanda Elzy closes things out in a Region 3-3A contest at Humphreys County. The Lady Panthers (20-5) are currently in second place in the region at 7-2 and would need a win tonight and some help to move to first before next week’s tournament at Cleveland East Side.
The Elzy boys (5-20, 2-7) will likely be the No. 5 seed.
Across town at Greenwood High School, the Lady Bulldogs (11-14) are locked in as the No. 3 seed in Region 3-4A at 5-3 and will play No. 2 seed Cleveland in the first round next week at Indianola Gentry.
Raymond will be the top seed, with Gentry and Yazoo City seeded fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Bulldogs (5-18) are 0-8 in region play and will be the No. 5 seed in the five-team tourney.
Greenwood plays a non-conference game at home tonight against JFK.
Gentry will be the No. 1 seed in the region tournament, with Raymond second, Yazoo City third and Cleveland fourth.
Leflore’s non-conference game with Clinton tonight was moved to Itta Bena. The girls will tip off at 6.
