Pillow Academy girls basketball coach Durwin Carpenter is among six inductees into Holmes Community College’s Sports Hall of Fame at Thursday’s ceremony held virtually at 6 p.m.
The event will be broadcast live on Holmes alumni social media platforms (@HolmesCCAlumni). Willie Harris Sr. (basketball), Jocobby Robinson (baseball), Danya Turner (football), Jonathan Boyd (basketball) and Trumaine Sykes (football) join Carpenter in the 2021 Hall of Fame class.
Carpenter, a Holcomb native, played basketball at Holmes before graduating and continuing his career at Delta State. After 20 years of coaching at Central Holmes Academy, he accepted the head girls basketball coaching position at Pillow in 1994.
Twenty-seven years later, the Lady Mustangs’ legend has amassed four Overall titles and four runner-up finishes while becoming the winningest active coach in the state with a career record of 1,099-387.
Carpenter coached in his 12th MAIS All-Star game this year after his Pillow squad was ousted by Jackson Academy in the first round of the Overall playoffs.
