Pillow Academy got a much-needed win as Parker Bariola drove in the winning run in the sixth inning of a 2-1 victory over visiting Central Holmes Christian School Friday.
Pillow (5-10) scored its first run in the fourth inning. Central Holmes tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the top of the fifth.
Three Mustang pitchers held the Trojans to one hit. Cody Holmes started on the mound and went 2-1/3 innings, allowing one hit, walking five and fanning five. Nolan Marshall worked the next three frames, surrendering one run on no hits, walking two and striking out five. Shane Houston Stephens went 1-2/3 innings, fanning one.
Bariola finished with two singles and two RBIs, and Lawes McCool had a single. Stephens and Luke Fondren scored a run apiece.
Pillow goes to league foe Magnolia Heights Tuesday for a pair of games starting at 4 p.m.
• J.Z. George: Humphreys County jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first two innings en route to a 9-7 win over the visiting Jaguars Friday.
The Cowboys tacked on single runs in the third and fourth frames, while J.Z. George scored two in the third and five in the fifth.
Michael Bankston (1-1) took the loss as he went the first four innings, allowing nine runs (eight earned) on 10 hits, walking one and fanning four. Josh Wiggins worked two innings, striking out three.
Robby Clunan had two singles and stole four bases, and Kendrick Head, Michael Shute, Bankston and Fisher Ratliff had a single each. Head also drove in one run and scored once, and Shute had two RBIs. Bankston and Ratliff scored a run each.
J.Z. George will hosts Holmes Central Monday.
• Carroll Academy: A nine-run fourth inning for Marshall was the difference in a 17-6 win over visiting Carroll Friday in Holly Springs.
Marshall tacked on six runs in the first and two in the second. CA scored three runs each in the first and second frames. The Rebels finished with six hits and made six errors in the field.
Jacob Cutts (1-3) took the loss as he allowed 13 runs in three-plus innings of work on 10 hits, hitting one batter. Lofton Holly worked one inning, giving up four runs on three hits, walking four and fanning one.
In the first for Carroll, Gavin Wiltshire singled and Andrew Montgomery and Noah Collier walked. Those three came home on a double by Dane Greenlee.
In the second, Logan Neal walked and Colby Holly singled. Bubba Porter doubled to drive in Neal, and a single by Wiltshire scored Holly. Porter scored when Wiltshire was in a rundown. Porter also had a single in the first but was caught stealing.
Carroll lost the junior varsity game 6-3. Zach Downs took the loss as he went one inning, giving up six runs on one hit with five walks. Lofton Holly and Josh Galey had a double each, and Bryce Collier and Hunter Grantham had a single each.
Carroll goes to Humphreys Academy Monday.
• Greenwood High: The Bulldogs did not play their final Region 3-4A game of the season against Gentry High School Friday, thus handing Gentry a forfeit win.
Greenwood is 0-9 overall, 0-8 in region play.
• Amanda Elzy: The Panthers picked up a forfeit win Friday over Region 3-3A foe Ruleville Central Friday to improve to 4-8 overall and 3-5 in league.
Elzy plays at J.Z. George Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
