The Pillow Academy tennis team improved to 3-0 this season with a 7-2 win Tuesday afternoon on the road at Oak Hill Academy.
The victory was fueled by a sweep on the girls side. No. 1 singles Dia Chawla cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win and fellow junior Avery McDaniel made quick work in her No. 2 singles match, claiming a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
The top girls doubles squad of Madison Jefcoat and Julia Love Lyon picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win. The No. 2 doubles team of Elizabeth Powers and Caroline Brock ran away with a 6-0, 6-2 rout.
On the boys side, top singles player Noah Lary took his match easily, 6-2, 6-0. No. 2 singles Druvh Patel had to work a little harder, but prevailed 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
The Mustangs suffered their first loss at No. 1 doubles when William Brown and Arnav Thakur split two sets, 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, and lost the deciding tiebreaker, 10-4. The duo of Richard McQueen and Walker Saia bounced back at No. 2 doubles with a 6-3, 6-0 victory.
Anne Craig Melton and Sumner Tackett lost their mixed doubles match, 6-3, 6-2.
Pillow will look to stay unbeaten when the Mustangs visit Washington School on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. for their next match.
