The rough start to the basketball season for the Pillow Academy girls basketball team continues.
The Lady Mustangs slipped to 4-5 on the season with a 59-46 loss to Madison-Ridgeland Academy Thursday night in Madison.
Pillow led 31-27 at the half, but the Lady Patriots rallied for the win.
Kaylee Jones poured in a team-high 19 points for PA, and Sarah Presley Howard chipped in with eight.
Mary Rogers Coon led MRA (9-2) with 22 points, while Rivers Futral added 18 as the Lady Patriots extended their winning streak to seven games. Coon drained six 3-pointers to eclipse the 20-point mark for the second straight game.
In boys action, the PA Mustangs opened their football-delayed start to the basketball season with a mighty tough challenge against an undefeated MRA team, falling 79-56 Thursday.
Josh Moor was the lone Mustang in double figures with 11 points. Powell Scates added nine points.
Phillip Hughes led the charge for MRA with 24 points. The Patriots drained 11 3-pointers en route to the easy win.
In junior high action, the MRA girls defeated the Lady Mustangs 35-21.
Elise Howard paced PA with 14 points.
The Pillow junior high boys dropped to 3-2 with a 49-31 loss to MRA. Drew Lamb recorded a team-high 13 points.
Pillow returns to action Monday against Oxford at 5 and 6:30 p.m. in the Oxford High School Tournament. Both teams will play Winona High School at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday in Oxford.
n Carroll Academy: The Rebels got off to a 2-0 start as they beat North Delta School 58-27 Thursday night in Batesville.
Carroll led 17-5 after one, 35-6 at the half and 48-16 after the third.
Reese Fulton and Logan Taylor had 18 points each. Fulton also had 10 rebounds, and Taylor had 10 assists.
