The Pillow Academy girls soccer squad’s struggles on offense continued against division foe St. Aloysius of Vicksburg early on. But constant pressure starting halfway through the first half resulted in a dominating 4-0 victory over the defending Academy AAA state champions Wednesday in Vicksburg.
Pillow struggled on the artificial turf and could not get a shot on goal until halfway through the first half. But left forward Madison Barlow was able to tap in a loose ball after the mid water break to give Pillow a 1-0 lead.
Pillow took a 2-0 lead late in the first half when seventh grader Addison Weems shot one in from 20 yards out. It was Weems’ first career varsity goal.
Leading goal-scorer Sarah Presley Howard gave Pillow a 3-0 lead off a beautiful pass by fellow sophomore, Georgia Caroline Self. Howard was able to close out the scoring with a laser shot from 18 yards out, giving Pillow its 4-0 final margin of victory.
Pillow (5-3) is 4-0 in conference action and can clinch its fifth straight division title when it faces Washington School of Greenville on Monday.
