Pillow Academy’s jamboree plan is simply to keep things simple.
First-year Mustang head coach Tripp McCarty won’t show much of his new offense Friday, when PA hosts a three-team preseason jamboree at Bill Davis Field.
“We will be extremely vanilla on both sides of the ball. We may run the same three or four plays the whole time. We won’t show much, and I don’t expect the others to show much either,” McCarty said. “The biggest thing we’re looking for is effort and attitude.
“We want to go out and hit some folks and fly around after the ball.”
Pillow will open the jamboree at 6 p.m. against Washington School.
Washington will play against Magnolia Heights at 6:40, and Pillow will close things out at 7:20 p.m. against Magnolia Heights.
Each scrimmage will consist of an A-game with a 20 minute running clock (last four minutes normal) and a B-game with a 10 minute running clock (last two minutes normal).
McCarty said his team should be much fresher for Friday’s activities than it was for last week’s scrimmages at Central Holmes.
“We were coming off three-a-day practices going into the scrimmages, and you could tell our kids weren’t full speed,” McCarty said. “We are trying to get our legs back under us for this, so we’ve been treating this more like a game week in practice.”
This will be the Mustangs’ final tune-up before their Aug. 22 season opener at home against North Delta.
