Pillow Academy coach Tripp McCarty is pleased with his team’s progress.
With music blaring and players moving at a fast pace, the Mustangs completed their third round of three-a-day practices Saturday as they prepare for their season opener Aug. 22 at home against North Delta.
“I thought our kids fought through some soreness today and showed some guts,” said the first-year PA head coach. “Things are going well. I think we’re building the foundation for something special.”
The Mustangs will participate in a scrimmage Friday afternoon in Lexington with Central Holmes and Winona Christian.
Pillow’s final tune-up before the season opener will come Aug. 15, when the Mustangs host a three-team with Washington and Magnolia Heights.
Greenwood High School will begin preseason practice Monday afternoon.
Fifth-year GHS head coach Clinton Gatewood said he expects to begin practice with 50-55 players.
“We will be working on schemes and focusing on fundamentals the first few days,” he said. “We also have to see who can play where so we can develop some depth.”
The Bulldogs have found a game for Aug. 22 to replace the Leflore County contest. GHS will host first-year school Holmes Central, recently formed with the consolidation of S.V. Marshall, J.J. McClain and Durant.
