Competing against the top private and public school golf teams in the state, Pillow Academy tied for fifth place in the Country Club of Jackson Invitational here Wednesday.
PA continued to show improvement with a team score of 312.
Heritage Academy won the tournament with a score of 291, and Tupelo High School was second at 296.
"We were proud to be included in this tournament, and our kids played hard all day on a challenging course," PA coach Randy Bensley said.
Playing her first round of the season with the A-team, Kathleen Gallagher posted the low round for Pillow Academy with a 75, placing her in the top 10 individually.
"Kathleen played a great round with the exception of a triple-bogey on the par-4 eighth hole. That turned out to be a pivotal hole for us as we really struggled on it all day," Bensley said.
Lou Adams also played his best tournament of the year with a 78. He birdied two of his last five holes to finish under 80.
Steve Pannell shot 79, followed by Thomas Gallagher with an 80, Jackson Pannell with an 84 and Anthony Ola with an 85.
"While we still have a lot of work to do before the North AAA in two weeks, I was real excited about some of the shots I saw and how some of our kids held onto some nice rounds," Bensley said.
The other team scores were: Jackson Prep 305, Oak Grove 306, Madison Central 312, Jackson Academy 323, Starkville Academy 324, MRA 328, Baldwin 332, Northwest Rankin 350 and St. Andrew's 357.
Pillow's next tournament is set for Monday at Clarksdale Country Club. It will be hosted by Lee Academy.
