JACKSON — Jackson Academy made it a clean sweep over visiting Pillow Academy.
The Mustangs hung tough for 21/2 quarters, but it was over quickly for the Lady Mustangs.
The JA girls (12-1) raced out to a 21-4 lead in the first period and never looked back en route to a 59-29 victory here Tuesday night.
After a 10-0 start, this was the second straight loss for the Lady Mustangs.
The Pillow boys dropped to 3-5 on the season with a 74-56 loss.
The Mustangs jumped out to an early 8-2 lead thanks to a pair of 3-pointers from Cleveland Totten.
PA led 16-11 after Totten scored a layup off a feed from Woods Rose and held a 17-13 advantage heading into the second period.
But the Raiders (8-2) outscored the Mustangs 24-10 in the second for a 10-point halftime lead. Pillow got within two, 37-35, early in the third before JA began to slowly pull away.
The undoing for the Mustangs was 28 turnovers that led to 27 points for JA. Depth was also a big issue as the Raiders had 27 points off the bench, compared to just three for Pillow.
Totten, a senior, finished with a game-high 22 points. He was 5-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc and had a team-high six rebounds.
Senior Woods Rose finished with 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Junior Eli Burton had 10 points.
Micah Morgan paced JA with 21 points.
In the girls game, Pillow was held to 25 percent shooting from the field and committed 18 turnovers.
Sophomore Jane Rob Pannell had team-highs in points (11) and rebounds (9), while senior Adair Brock chipped in with 10 points. Those two accounted for 21 of their team’s 29 points.
The Lady Raiders shot nearly 50 percent from the field as Lauran Sheriff led four players in double figures. She had 14 points and 14 rebounds.
In junior high action, the Pillow girls lost 48-21 to fall to 6-2.
Caroline Brock led the Lady Mustangs with 11 points.
Pillow plays at Washington School Friday in Greenville.
