Pillow Academy won 3-1 in overtime in soccer at Washington School in Greenville over the weekend.
Pillow's Jeffrey Bready hit the post early for the Mustangs, while wave after wave of Washington School attack was thwarted by Pillow goalkeeper Floyd Melton IV and a strong defense led by Richard McQueen, Austin Alderman, Jaden Simcox and Porter Spell.
Senior Sunjay Chawla converted on a penalty kick for his record 53rd goal of his career to break Adam Horn’s mark and set in 2015.
Washington knotted the match at 1-1.
During the first 10-minute overtime, junior Noah Woodard one-timed a corner kick from Bready to take a 2-1 lead. With Melton continually playing up and stifling the Washington offense, Pillow put it out of reach with three minutes left in the second overtime. Bready rambled through the defense and passed to Chawla, who left-footed it past the keeper for his second goal.
