That’s Tripp McCarty’s message for any opponents who might think twice about overlooking the impact Sam Harris has on the Mustangs’ defense.
Harris is listed at 5-9, 175 pounds. When asked about how those numbers on the PA roster were exaggerated. The Pillow head coach said: “Well, I hate to list anybody smaller than 5-9. He’s closer to that than 175 pounds for sure.”
But height and weight is just a number when you play with the heart and fire as Harris. He proved that last year when he led the team in tackles as a junior. He had 105 stops even though he missed a pair of games last season.
Harris picked up right where he left off in the 2019 opener — posting a team-high 14 tackles, including two for a loss of yardage. His play helped the swarming Mustang defense hold Jackson Academy to 61 rushing yards in PA’s 26-21 win over the Raiders.
“Sam, in his third year as a starter, has played a lot of football for us. He’s been through the wars with all the big boys — Jackson Prep, MRA and JA. He’s never once shied away from the challenge,” McCarty said. “He does a real good job of dissecting things in front of him and using the correct angles to attack the ballcarrier.
