STARKVILLE — Pillow Academy put together its best game at the plate at the perfect time.
The Mustangs pounded out 17 hits, including seven straight in an 8-run third inning, to pound Starkville Academy 12-4 here Tuesday in a North AAA conference contest.
The win evens PA’s league mark at 2-2 and puts the Mustangs at 6-7 overall. Pillow will host Starkville for a doubleheader Thursday.
“This was a big game for us to get our bats back going and to get back to even in the conference,” PA coach Tim Burton said. “It is definitely a confidence booster heading home to play two more against Starkville.”
Starkville led 2-0 after one inning. Pillow tied the game at 2 in the top of the second and led 10-2 after its third-inning explosion.
The Volunteers added two more runs in the fourth, but Pillow answered with a solo home run in the fifth by senior James Davidson.
PA closed out the scoring in the the sixth with another run.
Davidson finished with three hits, including a homer and a double. Adam Crick also had three hits, including a double.
Gaston Lyon had two hits, including a double that started his team’s run of seven consecutive hits in the third inning.
Landon Taylor, Andrew Ables and Zack Davis had two hits each.
Jim Tom Pilgreen, Luke Kimmel and Bo Farmer chipped in with a single each.
Farmer picked up the win on the mound. He worked five innings, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out three and walking two.
Ables worked the final two innings, allowing just one hit with one strikeout and and two walks.
- Eupora 15, J.Z. George 3 — The Jaguars had a rough night in their Region 4-2A opener as they dropped a 15-3 decision at Eupora Tuesday.
The Eagles scored four in the first, three in the second, two in the third and six in the fourth. The Jags tallied one in the second and two in the fourth.
Blake Pollard (0-3) took the loss. He went 31/3 innings, allowing 14 runs on seven hits, walking three and fanning three. Joseph Johnson got the last two outs, giving up one run on one hit.
Kemp Haddon had a single and Johnson a triple for the Jaguars (3-5, 0-1).

- Leflore-Bailey postponed: Leflore County's home game against Jackson Bailey Tuesday was postponed because of wet conditions and will be played as a doubleheader in Jackson on April 9.
The Tigers host Riverside Friday at 4 p.m.
