Pillow Academy evened its three-game series with its archrival Wednesday in Greenville.
The Mustangs won the first game of the doubleheader Wednesday, 9-8, after falling 14-3 to Washington School in the series opener Tuesday at PA.
Pillow (11-6-1) scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning for a 9-7 advantage. They came off singles by Cody Holmes, Sam Harris and Nolan Marshall — combined with two errors and a walk.
Washington added a run in the sixth and had runners at first and second with one out in the seventh. However, Shane Houston Stephens got a strikeout and then a foul tip caught by the catcher to end the contest.
Gavin Lessley led PA at the plate with three hits. Lawes McCool had two, including a double, and drove in two runs. Lake Giachelli also had a two-bagger for Pillow. The two teams were still playing Game 3 at press time.
On Tuesday, the Mustangs lost 14-3 in six innings as Austin Kelly paved the way against his former team with two home runs and three RBIs. Kelly played at PA in the ninth grade before leaving for the Greenville school.
Washington scored six runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. It led 8-3 after two innings.
The Generals padded their lead with two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. When PA failed to plate a run in the home half of the sixth, the game was called due to the 10-run rule.
