The Pillow Academy’s boys soccer team continued its winning ways with a huge 6-0 victory over conference rival Magnolia Heights on Friday in Greenwood.
Forward Logan Harvey exploded for four goals in the game, scoring two goals in the first three minutes of the contest. Harvey now leads the team with 15 goals on the season.
Harvey opened the scoring in the first two minutes of the contest when he took a Sunjay Chawla header in the box and one timed it to the left corner of the net.
Only one minute later, Harvey took a Brady McDaniel pass and shot again to the left corner, giving Pillow an early quick commanding lead.
By the 13th minute, Harvey had completed his hat trick. Fullback Colin Short threw the ball in to Harvey, who launched a shot from 25 yards out that beat the Magnolia Heights goalie for a 3-0 lead.
Six minutes later Harvey was involved in another goal. He launched a perfect pass to McDaniel, who broke in on goal but shot it off the goalie. But Chawla was able to left foot kick the rebound in, giving Pillow a 4-0 lead.
McDaniel’s pass to a streaking Harvey with 10 minutes left in the first half gave Harvey another chance to score, and the senior star was able to launch in a right-footer to give Pillow a 5-0 lead.
Working in many subs in the second half, the Mustangs shut down the visitors and scored their final goal off a quick free kick by senior Walker Coleman, giving Pillow its final 6-0 margin of victory.
Pillow outshot Magnolia Heights 14-2 for the game, as Walt Pillow earned his 4th shutout of the season.
The Mustangs are now off to their best start in their soccer history, moving to 7-1-1 on the season. They also move to a perfect 2-0 in conference play.
They will be back in action on Tuesday at home versus Greenville St. Joe.
