South Delta High School poured it on in the second half as the homestanding Bulldogs eliminated Leflore County from the North 2A playoffs with a 46-18 win Friday night in Rolling Fork.
Leflore ends its season at 5-7, while South Delta improves to 7-4 and plays Scott Central in the second round next week. Scott Central beat Bruce 55-6 Friday night.
Leflore held a 6-0 lead after the first period as junior quarterback Maurice Edwards hit wide receiver Dekari Johnson from 35 yards out.
However, South Delta took a 16-12 lead at the break. Leflore got a 45-yard TD run from senior tailback Willie McCline in the quarter.
The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers 16-6 in the third and 14-0 in the fourth.
Leflore’s final score came via the pass as Edwards and Johnson hooked up from 40 yards out.
Edwards was only 3-of-7 for 105 yards with an interception. Johnson had all three receptions, plus he ran for 35 yards on three carries.
McCline finished his night with 126 yards on eight carries, which gives him 1,897 yards on 173 carries for the season with 12 rushing touchdowns.
Royce Jackson had 50 yards rushing on two carries and 10 tackles on defense. Emanuel Stanley and Kwalique Swinney had 10 stops each, and D’Angelo Brewer had seven tackles.
n North Panola 55, Amanda Elzy 14 — The Cougars move on to the second round of the North 3A playoffs with their victory over visiting Elzy Friday night in Sardis.
North Panola (10-1) will play North Pontotoc, a 55-14 winner over South Pontotoc, in the second round next week. Elzy closes with a 5-7 overall mark in Sheldon Hodge’s second season as head coach.
