Carroll Academy's rally came up a run short as the Lady Rebels dropped a 10-9 decision to Winona Christian School Tuesday in fastpitch softball action.
Carroll (2-14) scored two runs in the second, four in the fourth and three in the seventh.
They had a total of nine hits but also made seven errors in the field. Winona plated single runs in the third, fifth and sixth frames, and seven in the fourth.
Kaylee Ferguson (1-8) took the loss in the circle as she went 51/3 innings, allowing all six runs on four hits, walking five and hitting three batters. Sandy Tackett got the final two outs but not before allowing four runs on two hits, walking two and fanning one.
In the second for CA, Presley Woods reached on an error, Ferguson singled and Katie Lauren Clark reached on an error, which scored Woods. A double by Tackett scored pinch-runner Layla Hall.
In the third, Carroll scored four runs when Ferguson and Tackett led off with singles, and Helen Claire Cobb reached on an error.
Meri Brynn Reeves singled in Hall, and Sara Austin Welch hit a sacrifice fly to score Tackett. Kaitlyn Chamblee singled to plate Reeves.
In the top of the seventh for Carroll, Woods left off with a single, Ferguson reached on an error and pinch-hitter Natalie Kelly walked. Tackett singled in Woods, and a single by Reeves brought home Ferguson. Welch hit another sac fly to score Kelly, but the rally fell short with the tying run at third.
