Keyara McCline led a balanced scoring attack with 21 points as the Amanda Elzy girls picked up a 49-35 Region 3-3A win over Charleston High Friday night at Elzy.
Alexandria Martin had eight points, Janay Williams seven and My’Shelle Berry six for the Lady Panthers (8-15, 3-4 in region). Elzy led 15-11 after one, 20-16 at the half and 30-22 after the third.
Charleston’s boys came back from a 12-11 deficit after the first period to cruise to a 72-53 win over the Panthers, who slip to 11-13 and 4-3 in district. The Tigers went in front 32-20 at the half and 48-35 after the third frame.
Reggie Miller paced Elzy with 22 points. William Stewart notched 10, and Isiah Collins had six. TJ Davis had 26 for Charleston.
Elzy goes to J.Z. George Tuesday night.
n J.Z. George: The Jaguars were outscored 29-20 in the fourth frame and fell 77-74 at Humphreys County Friday night. The Cowboys trailed 17-11 after the first period, 35-32 at the half and 54-48 after the third frame.
Malik Branch led the Jaguars (6-17, 1-7 Region 3-3A) with 24 points. Kendrick Glover tacked on 15, and Caesa Glenn had 12 points. Devontae Smith tallied seven.
In the girls game, Humphreys County trailed 29-25 at the half but rallied for a 63-47 triumph over the Lady Jaguars (2-22, 0-8 in district).
Tashanda Fleming and Dekeria Walls led J.Z. George with 13 points each. Tyeshia Grant tallied 12, and Natajah Basin had six.
n Delta Streets Academy: The Lions dropped a 67-30 decision to West Memphis Friday night at MVSU.
Qua Fuller had 10 points, and Braxton Lewis tallied nine.
DSA plays Tuesday against North Sunflower in the District 2A Tournament at Delta Academy.
The DSA junior varsity team plays Delta today at 2:15 in the tournament title game. The Lions beat Humphreys 37-36 Thursday as Isaiah Tabor had 16 points. Jaylen Lewis tacked on eight.
nPillow Academy: The Lady Mustangs got a huge game from Jane Rob Pannell in a 55-45 win over East Rankin Friday at PA to move to 21-3.
Pannell scored 10 points while recording 17 rebounds, five steals and four assists.
Kaylee Jones had a team-high 14 points to go with seven boards. Sarah Presley Howard added 11 points.
Breck Bolin pumped in a team-high 21 points to help the Mustangs (9-13) to a 58-45 win over East Rankin. Josh Moor had 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Jack Reichle pulled down 10 rebounds and dished out five assists.
