Pillow Academy’s tough season got even tougher Tuesday with a lopsided loss to archrival Washington School.
The Mustangs had just one hit and three base runners in an 11-1 five-inning loss in Greenville to fall to 5-14 on the year, 0-4 in North AAAA Division II play.
It was the worst outing at the plate all season for the young PA team.
Pillow, a loser in six of its last seven, has allowed double-digit runs in 12 of its 14 losses this season.
The game was tied at 1 Tuesday after one inning, but the Generals put up three runs in the second, five in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Shane Houston Stephens, a sophomore, had the Mustangs’ lone hit. PA committed four errors that led to four unearned runs.
Washington finished with nine hits against three Pillow pitchers.
Cody Holmes took the loss, allowing eight runs on five hits in 31/3 innings while striking out six and walking three.
Stephens and Eli Burton pitched in relief.
Pillow closes out the regular season today at home with a doubleheader against Washington. With all eight teams in AAAA Division II in the playoffs, the Mustangs will likely face Lamar School in a best-of-three series next week.
