The Pillow Academy girls golf team won the MAIS Girls Overall State Championship Tuesday at Patrick Farms Golf Club in Pearl.
This was the fifth consecutive win for PA in this event.
Kathleen Gallagher and Kristen Stephens shot a combined score of 160 — good enough for a 13-shot win over second-place Jackson Academy at 173.
Gallagher was the medalist with a score of 75.
She started the round with a triple-bogey on the first hole but played well after that, making the turn to the back nine with a 41.
Gallagher shot a bogey-free 34 on the back side en route to winning the individual championship.
“I am real proud of the way Kathleen bounced back from a rough start and played so well,” PA coach Randy Bensley said. “With the exception of three holes, Kristen played a great round with an 85 that left her in sixth place individually.”
The other team scores were: Stillman Institute (222), Jackson Prep (229), and Newton County Academy (254).
